Timothy George Smith

Gastonia - Timothy George Smith, 76, of Gastonia was called home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born December 27, 1944 in Gaston County, North Carolina, a son of the late Guy Lee Smith Sr. and Ruby Caroline Fox Smith.

Tim played football and graduated from Ashley High School, attended Lees-McRae College and played collegiate football, and graduated from Gaston College with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He began his career at Buffalo Tank and retired from Tyco, Inc./Amp, Inc. Tim was a member of Myers Memorial United Methodist Church and was involved with the youth, Staff Parrish Relations Committee and served on the Administrative Board. Tim was a family man and protector, and he exemplified his Christian faith, leaving a great legacy to those he loved. He loved his brothers and together, they adored and lovingly took care of their mother, "Mama Smith." Tim was an avid tennis player and adored his "girls," but the reality was, his grandchildren were the heart of his life! Throughout his battle with Parkinson's disease, he never let it hinder his faith, family, or sense of humor.

Survivors of Tim include his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Wallace Smith of Gastonia,; daughters, Allison Smith Beatty and husband, Adam of Columbus, GA, and Ashley Smith of Charlotte; brother, R. Douglas Smith and wife, Cindy of Tucker, GA; grandchildren, Wilson Timothy Beatty and Caroline Ashley Beatty; nieces and nephews, Ricky Smith and wife, DeDe, Tammy Smith, Lisa Smith O'Reilly and husband Matt, Suzanna Helton, Cameron Holmes and husband, John; and great-nieces, Natalie and Kate. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Guy "Buster" Lee Smith, Jr. and his wife, Molly Smith, Eddie Carroll Smith; infant sister, Caroline Smith; and nephew, Guy Lee Smith, III.

The family will receive friends at Myers Memorial United Methodist from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

A memorial service will follow at the church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Sally Queen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, or Myers Memorial United Methodist Church, 301 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC 28054 .

The family is especially grateful to his neurologist, Dr. Englert, CaroMont Health staff, and their lifelong friends, the Liars Club.
