Obituary of Dale Edward Fox

Dale Edward Fox passed away at home peacefully on Sunday afternoon October 14th, 2018. His family and friends will always remember his bright smile, his wit, his intellect and how he would often see the world through his own lens offering a different perspective to the rest of us. He was quick, smart and with a mischievous twinkle in his eye that we will never forget.

But most of all, we will remember Dale as an athlete, either playing tennis and golf or watching a sport on TV. He won the Club Championship in both tennis and golf in 1984 at the Gaston Country Club. And he loved going to the games and watching the Panthers play.

Dale graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1967 with a degree in accounting. He was a proud member of Pi Lamba Phi fraternity and remained a loyal Tar Heel fan. Dale became a Certified Public Accountant in 1968. After working for several accounting companies, Dale and his wife Lyn opened their own firm in Gastonia.

Dale will be dearly missed by all you knew and loved him.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Vera (Simon) and Julius Maurice Fox and a brother Melvyn Fox.

Left to cherish his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife of 50 year – Lyn (Outwater) Fox and a son James Kent Mosley and wife Katie. Also surviving Dale are his niece Dr. Nicole Fox of Boise, ID and a nephew Andrew Fox and wife Sasha of New Rochelle, NY. Dale’s great nieces and nephews are Jack Fox, Sam Fox, Allie Fox, Mason Lam and Miranda Lam. Dale also had a host of additional extended family members who will miss him greatly.

The funeral service for Dale will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday October 17, 2018 at Temple Emanuel, 320 South Street Gastonia. Burial will follow the funeral service at Gaston Memorial Park in Gastonia.

The family requests that donations be made in Dale’s name the Gastonia Crisis Assistance Ministry of Christians and Jews, 805 W. Airline Ave, Gastonia, NC 28052 or the charity of your choice.

The staff at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia is honored to serve the Fox family.

I remember Dale well.  He was a rather soft spoken fellow, small in stature, or so it seemed until you saw him hit a golf ball off the tee.  I am saddened to learn of his passing.

Dale was a good friend with a positive, confident outlook on life.  He did love golf and tennis and excelled at both.  On the few times we played golf together, it was obvious he was on a different talent and seriousness plane.  Mostly I remember his open, quirky, and sometimes dark humor and quick mind.  Like other classmates, I will miss him.

James Samuel Query, III (James Samuel Query, Iii)

I am saddened by the passing of Dale.  He was a good friend during our years at Grier School.  Two events have been in my memory for a long time.  I partnered with Dale in Phys Ed to win the one-wall handball tournament in our class.  I rode him like a racehorse.  His eye-hand coordination was incredible.  That skill showed up in his golf and tennis.  I was also honored to be invited to a special dinner at his home during our Jr Hi years that I think must have been a part of his Bar Mitzvah celebration.  His mother served a wonderful meal on her finest china in the dining room of their home for a group of us.  When we got to Ashley, our paths diverged and we didn't remain close, but I continued to have high respect for Dale.  I had hoped that through our website we could have reconnected.   His wife and family are in my prayers.
