Thanks everyone for the prayers and encouragement. I'm in remission now and I'll be scheduled for periodic checkups and tests for the rest of my life, which, at my age shouldn't be too much of an inconvenience??. My treatment took place at Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina. My doctor is Dr. Monitto. The people at Gibbs are compassionate and warm and they do all they can to make each patient as comfortable, both mentally and physically, as possible.
When I started the radiation, I was worried about ME, me, me. As the days and weeks passed, I stopped obsessing about myself and began caring about my fellow patients. I saw them every week, and we shared each other's success when a treatment regime was completed and the doctor said, "See you next month for a checkup." and we shared each other's sadness and aloneness when the doctor said, "We're going to have to try something else."
Again, thanks to each of you Your prayers and encouragement meant a lot to me. As Tiny Tim said at his Christmas dinner, "God bless us, every one!"
Love you guys. Have a joyous and safe holiday season!

Happy birthday, Bill. And here's your birthday joke: A duck walked into a drugstore and picked up a tube of chapstick. Then he said to the druggist: "I want to buy this tube of chapstick. Please put it on my bill."

Our prayers are with our men and women in the armed services as things with Iran heat up. I have a daughter, 16 years old, just a year younger than I was when I joined the US Air Force. She is changing schools after the Christmas break and will transfer from Army Jr ROTC to Air Force Jr ROTC. Her best friend joined the Army last spring, finished her basic training at Fort Jackson and is in technical training somewhere in Virginia. My heart aches for these and all young people for what they might see and experience in the next few years. I pray to God that He will keep our men and women safe from harm and that He will somehow make the politicians, both ours and theirs, seek peace over war.
I sat here mindlessly surfing the internet and I hit upon Irving Berlin on the Ed Sullivan Show, singing a song he’d written in 1939 and I’ll share the link with you: It’s “God Bless America” and the link is https://binged.it/2ZRp2Gh. I looked a little further and found a very unique version of our National Anthem along with a story of how it came about and containing information of which I was unaware. That link is: https://youtu.be/YaxGNQE5ZLA.
Another singer I’ve always loved is Ray Charles, and his version of “America the Beautiful” is special to me. That link is: https://youtu.be/CILIBlQ2D0Q. And then I came across a story about a teacher and her talkative student Mark, and my eyes became wet as I read the words as they scrolled across the screen of my monitor. I shed tears for Mark and for all of the 60,000 killed-in-action, over 150,000 wounded, and some 1,600 missing men and women. That link is: https://youtu.be/I0wUsp2a1ic.
Then I went to my favourite uTube video and that’s Red Skelton as he quoted from memory the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. Red explains the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, word-by-word, from a memorized lecture given to him by his 7th grade school teacher, Mr. Lasswell. The link is: https://youtu.be/hJNL_rhGDq4. Enjoy. And keep our men and women in the armed forces in your prayers.
