In Memory Deceased Class

Larry Hughes (Hughes)

Larry Hughes (Hughes)

It is with surprise and sadness that I announce the passing of another of our amazing classmates.

Larry "Spanky" Hughes passed away February 9, 2020.

Janice, his wife, said that due to the Covid19 virus and the situation, there has not been an obituary, so I will relay what she told me.

Spanky was diagnosed with lung cancer in October, 2019.  In December, they moved to Houston for treatment at MD Anderson. In January, he contracted pneumonia and things just went from bad to worse.  He passed away February 9.

As was Spanky's way, he bequeathed his body to research in hopes it would help someone else...that was just Spanky.

We all remember the jovial Spanky.  Always ready with a joke or a story and a good laugh.  We will all miss him showing up at our reunions and having a good time.  He once told me at a reunion that he had joined the US Air Force to see the world.  Then spent most of his career at Mytle Beach Air Force Base.

Our prayers and best wishes go out to Janice and the rest of Spanky's family.  May he rest in peace.

It is hard to believe that Spanky has passed. At the 70th birthday party, I sat with Janice and him. I even took photos of them that no one else has ever seen. Larry, Rest in Peace because you shared your joy of life with every one you met. I'll always remember you. Jim

I was saddened to hear of Spanky's death. As Gene mentioned earlier, Spanky was one of those people who was always upbeat and positive. I remember his telling about his experience in the airforce with great humor. I want to extend my condolences to his family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.

I am so sorry we have lost Spanky. I first met him at Wray Jr Hi and always enjoyed chatting with him at our reunions. I don’t think I ever saw him without that great big smile. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. I’m sure they are still mourning for him.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Spanky.  I went to Wray Jr. High with him and remember him as always being very friendly to everyone.  He supported our class reunions by attending as many as possible.

He will be missed at our next gathering.  My prayers and thoughts are with his wife and family.
